Diplomacy is not and cannot be dead. The close alignment of the Biden administration to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has negated any claim of ‘honest broker’ status for the US to mediate a path toward Israel/Palestine peace. Thankfully there are other options in the region. Egypt and Qatar have evolved as indispensable interlocuters in efforts to calm the Israeli war in Gaza and Oman continues to demonstrate its unique ability to facilitate diplomacy between the US, Iran and the Houthis in Yemen.
